About Books, Bangs, and Freebies

Dithering is a skill I’ve developed into an art form. A month ago I bought fun stuff to give away as a means to entice people to please read my Christmas book. The first two people to comment from out of (Wisconsin) state get a book, choice of regular or decaf coffee or a pack of hot cocoa, Wisconsin-made candy, and a cute alligator bookmark that I highly doubt was made in Wisconsin. If only local folks comment, so be it. If no one comments, guess what my husband is getting in his stocking?

Someday, let’s talk about books. Ones you love, recommend, despise, want to read again and again. Say, how about today, if you want, tell the first chapter book you read. I’ll go first: Little House in the Big Woods when I was in first grade. 60 years later and I am still a fan of the series.

  1. I wish I could remember the name of the first chapter book I read but funny fact, it was a gift from your mom. It was a book whose main characters were a brother and sister, similar to the Bobsie (Bopsie?) Twins. Given some thought it will come to me, most likely waking me up in the middle of the night when the name pops into my dream.

  2. One of the first books I recall reading is Little House on the Prarie and then went back and read Little House in the Big Woods. Maybe a teacher read Little House on the Prarie to our class, and that’s why I heard it first before i read the series, because I can recall it seemed like one of my favorite times of the day was when the teacher would read from a book to the whole class usually after the long recess, which was right after lunch. Of course the time was never long enough.

    1. Yes! The teacher reading after lunch recess! It was always my favorite time and I agree—it always ended too soon.
Wonder if that was standard practice in all grade schools? It was in every little Christian school I attended (in Iowa, Delavan, WI and Kenosha, WI)
